Ohio’s Republican Governor is fighting against a state-wide ban placed on a drug that has been praised by many as a cure for the coronavirus.
Following the viral video of a group of frontline doctors revealing that hydroxychloroquine was effective in combatting the COIVD-19, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) announced that the Ohio Board of Pharmacy had issued a ruling that prohibited the selling or dispensing of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19.
Gov. Mike DeWine publicly asked the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the State Medical Board to “halt the new rule issued Thursday that bans the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment of COVID-19.”
“I agree with the statement from Dr. Steven Hahn, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, that the decision about prescribing hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 should be between a doctor and a patient,” DeWine tweeted.
He added, “The Board of Pharmacy and the State Medical Board of Ohio should revisit the issue, listen to the best medical science, and open the process up for comment and testimony from experts. Therefore, I am asking the @OhioRxBoard to halt their new rule prohibiting the selling or dispensing of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19.”
ODH spokeswoman Melanie Amato claimed to the press on that hydroxychloroquine was not an effective treatment, according to OhioStateHouseNews.com.
The impressive number of patients that have been treated with hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 and recovered, however, tell a different story than the Ohio Department of Health, and it may be part of a larger attempt to squash this potential cure.
Dr. Simone Gold, a board certified emergency physician who was one of the doctors in the viral hydroxychloroquine video has since been fired by the hospital where she was employed due to the media’s attempts to slander her and her colleagues.
Gold is the founder of the newly created group called America’s Frontline Doctors.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, meanwhile, is seemingly gearing the American public up for what could be the next escalation in mandated coronavirus precautions.
Fauci suggested that people should now be wearing goggles or face shields to get added protection from contracting the coronavirus.
“If you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,” Fauci told ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton.
“You have mucosa in the nose, mucosa in the mouth, but you also have mucosa in the eye,” he said. “Theoretically, you should protect all the mucosal surfaces. So, if you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it.”
During his interview, Fauci also said he hopes Americans wearing masks in the fall will also stem the spread of the flu. “It is inevitable that we’re going to have some degree of flu,” he said. “I’m hoping that the wearing of masks and other coverings are going to not only protect us against COVID-19, but also help protect us against influenza.”
Fauci has been wrong at nearly every turn throughout the pandemic, initially saying Americans should not wear masks and that they were no more than a “placebo.”
