At a campaign event in Yuma, Arizona, President Trump declared he has achieved victory in his fight to protect our southern border with a wall – and tore into Biden’s “deadly” immigration plan.
The president celebrated the immigration victory in the border city and pointed out that the mainstream media doesn’t talk about it anymore because he got it done. “You don’t hear about the wall anymore because we won,” Trump said.
There are now approximately 280 miles of wall built since 2017, and officials told Trump at the site that they expect to have completed 300 miles as early as the end of next week.
The wall was a major campaign promise made by Trump during his 2016 campaign – and despite the Democrats’ very best efforts to block him in every way imaginable – he has delivered.
Trump also hailed the wall at a nearby campaign event after the border visit, where he spoke to supporters.
“That big portion of wall already built you don’t get through it, you can’t get through it, you can climb Mount Everest and you’ll have an awful hard time getting over that sucker,” he said.
The building of the wall has coincided with a steep decline in crossings at the border. The wall has been accompanied by other policies to restrict illegal immigration, including the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) and asylum agreements with countries in the Northern Triangle.
This year the administration has been returning asylum seekers and illegal immigrants quickly because of a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) order stemming from the coronavirus crisis. It has also sought to crack down on “sanctuary cities” in which detainers from federal immigration enforcement are ignored.
The president rallied with supporters for about an hour in the 120 degree Arizona heat with a crowd of cheering supporters and accepted the endorsement of the National Border Patrol Council union.
The president touted his own tough work on immigration and border security, building hundreds of miles of wall on the Southern border, stopping caravans of migrants claiming asylum, and deporting gangsters and criminals like MS-13.
“I stood up to the lobbyists, everybody fought us, the Democrats, everyone, the special interests,” he boasted.
Border Patrol Union Vice President Art De Cueto delivered a passionate speech in Spanish and English before Trump’s rally, urging all Americans to re-elect Trump.
“I’m sick and tired about Latinos not hearing the truth,” he said. “Do we want a president whose priorities are with our country? The answer should always be yes.”
He gave a shoutout to supporters of the president, including Latinos for Trump.
“Again, I will repeat that it is not about race,” he said. “Stop using the race card and start using the Trump card.”
National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd said when the union first endorsed Trump, he did so on “potential” and the promises that he made to border enforcement officials.
“We’re not talking about potential anymore, we’re talking about accomplishment … he has done more than any other president to secure our borders,” he said.
Trump also tore into Biden’s immigration plan, which, thanks to a heavy influence from the radical left, essentially calls for open borders.
“Joe Biden is the puppet of the radical left wing movement that seeks the complete elimination of America’s borders and boundaries,” Trump said. “They want to take the wall down, they don’t want borders, they want sanctuary cities.”
Trump warned supporters that a Biden plan would “unleash a flood of illegal immigration”
“This is what they want to do and give every illegal alien on the planet earth a free ticket to invent an asylum claim and gain automatic admission into our country,” Trump said.
“Biden’s plan is the most radical extreme, reckless, dangerous and deadly immigration plan put forward by a major party candidate — it must be defeated and it will be defeated on Nov. 3,” he said.
